ABOUT DESRE PICKERS Welcome to my website, my work and my passion. As a young girl growing up in Africa I watched my parents build a 40ft catamaran in our garden shed (greatly expanded) and it taught me a lesson: with hard work, determination and perseverance, I could achieve anything I wanted. I didn't know what I wanted; all I knew is that I didn't want to work indoors. I wanted to be creative and I wanted to be active. I suppose its natural that I became a photographer as it combines the three things I enjoy the most. I have found myself working closely with many top international athletes from many sports. One of the advantages I have in my field is that I live and travel with Steve Fisher, reputed to be the "worlds best kayaker". Steve and I have a unique situation where he does what he loves doing best, and I do what I love. The results speak for themselves. Over the years I have become a recognized part of the kayakers who are pushing the boundaries of their sport and breaking new ground. I am honored to be a part of the ever-increasing popularity of the sport by bringing it into the mainstream attention through my photographs. This has been the most amazing adventure of my life. However I couldn't have done it with out the support and encouragement of the people who surround me, especially my parents who taught that times will get tough, but as long as you love where you are and what you are doing, its easy to persevere.
